What a crazy world we live in! Thank goodness it doesn’t belong to any man, woman, nation, government, or political agenda. This is my Father’s world!
Being single allows plenty of time for travel, I’ll give it that. From the east coast to the west coast of both the United States and Canada, as far away as England and as close to home as the majestic mountains in my front yard, the pictures in this video are all places I stood and witnessed the truth of this hymn’s message. No one but God could create such a wonder as this earth, and no one but God can rule it.
Living as we do in a time where it sometimes feels like he’s abdicated the throne, it’s good to be reminded that he hasn’t.
This Is My Father’s World (Even in the Tumultuous 2020s)
Before the flood, Enoch saw this vision of the earth’s condition: “And he beheld Satan; and he had a great chain in his hand, and it veiled the whole face of the earth with darkness; and he looked up and laughed, and his angels rejoiced.”
If we’re not sitting right in the middle of that frightening picture ourselves, I don’t want to know what Satan’s chains really look like. This roiling ocean of corruption is dark enough with its lust for money and power, its desecration of marriage, chaos of genders, and twisted standards on the value of life, where evil is called good and good is called evil and God’s laws are daily trampled by the grotesque perversions of men. Yes, Satan has plenty to laugh about. God has given him a long rope, and I know I’m not the only one looking heavenward as I tap my foot and mumble, “Any minute now, Jesus…”
Things are dire.
But “though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the Ruler yet!”
That line has been my anchor. Holding on to it has been a matter of faith because among our widespread shortages has been a discouraging undersupply of proof that God is working in any of this.
But is he really so hard to find? Is his hand really so hard to see?
Perhaps not as hard as I thought.
All Things Denote There is a God
In the Book of Mormon, Alma went toe-to-toe with a man named Korihor who wanted proof there was a God. “Show me a sign, that I may be convinced that there is a God, yea, show unto me that he hath power.”
Still, Korihor would not believe, so God gave him his sign. He struck Korihor dumb.
It’s easy to toss Korihor on the pile of wicked Book of Mormon characters and be done with him, but how much better am I doing, really? No, I’ve never denied the existence of God, but wanting a sign of his power? Guilty. “Where’s the action, Heavenly Father? I know you’re real, but what are you doing? Why is the world still a mess? Why am I still single? In all your power to create the heavens and earth, why don’t you do something about that?”
That’s what I wanted to know the day I took the picture shown here. Feeling especially depressed about my situation, I drove into the mountains, stared at this view with tears in my eyes, and asked God, “If you can create something like this, why can’t you bring two people together?”
But the question answers itself. If God has power to make mountains, he has power to move them. There are signs enough of what he can do in what he has done.
As for what he is doing–I think it’s a lot more than we give him credit for. It’s sometimes a painstaking process to move a mountain. But that doesn’t mean it’s not moving. There may still be evil and heartache everywhere I turn. But everywhere I turn, there is also my Father’s world. Therefore, there is also my Father.

“This Is My Father’s World” Lyrics
Words by Maltbie D. Babcock This is my Father's world, And to my list'ning ears All nature sings, and round me rings The music of the spheres. This is my Father's world: I rest me in the thought Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas-- His hand the wonders wrought. This is my Father's world: The birds their carols raise. The morning light, the lily white Declare their Maker's praise. This is my Father's world: He shines in all that's fair. In the rustling grass I hear him pass, He speaks to me everywhere. This is my Father's world: Oh, let me ne'er forget That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the Ruler yet. This is my Father's world: The battle is not done. Jesus who died will be satisfied, And earth and Heav'n be one.
This is such a beautiful piece. I listened to it with my baby girls and they happily cooed to themselves as the music played. I think they enjoyed it. 🙂 Looking forward to hearing more music from you (maybe even some flute pieces, hmm? :D)
I’d have to blow A LOT of dust off my flute first. 🙂
